IPL & Laser Hair Removal

IPL & Laser Hair Removal

Looking for a hair removal solution that really works? IPL & Laser Hair Removal treatments eliminate even the most stubborn hair with long-lasting results.

IPL & Laser hair removal treatments are the most permanent solutions to unwanted body hair for men and women.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a solution that works for most people looking to eliminate relatively fine hair in their legs, underarm area or bikini line.

For those wanting to get rid of dark and coarser hair, we offer Nd:YAG Laser, a revolutionary treatment for the most tenacious types of hair.

IPL & Laser Hair Removal FAQ's

How does the treatment work?

Both IPL and Laser therapies use light energy to penetrate your skin. The light is absorbed by the melanin (natural pigment that gives colour to the skin) inside your actively growing hair. As the temperature rises, it destroys the hair follicles without damaging the surrounding cells.

What is the difference between IPL and laser?

Laser and IPL use light energy to destroy the hair follicles, but the type of light they use is different.

IPL uses a broad spectrum of visible light wavelengths. As ILP is able to cover wider areas, it is the ideal treatment for general hair removal.

Laser emits a monochromatic light beam that targets specific, small, controlled areas of skin. This makes it more efficient for the removal of more stubborn hair.

What results can I expect?

You will start to notice results as the treatment progresses. You can expect a progressive reduction in hair growth, and any new hairs will be finer and weaker. As a result, your skin will become smoother and your pores less visible.

Both treatments offer long lasting results, but we cannot guarantee a total elimination of hair. However, for most patients any hair in the treated areas usually becomes unnoticeable.

As with any aesthetic procedure, experience, results and length of treatment may vary from person to person.

How many treatments will I need?

The treatment can only target hair that is actively growing. Therefore, multiple treatments are needed until satisfactory results are seen. For most patients, this is normally achieved after six treatment sessions.

Treatment sessions are usually spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart, but your dermatologist will determine what the best frequency is depending on your case.

How long does each treatment take?

Treatments can take as little as 10 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the treated area. We will cool down your skin after each session, which can take a few minutes.

Does it hurt?

IPL and laser treatments are mildly uncomfortable, but no anaesthetic is required. Most people describe the sensation as similar to the flick of an elastic band.

Although we will cool down your skin immediately after treatment, the area is likely to feel warm and sensitive for the first few days post treatment.

Is it any recovery time needed?

The treatment requires minimal downtime, but you should avoid unprotected sun exposure for at least 30 days. You should also wait about 48 hours before using makeup, taking a hot shower or physical exercise.

Can IPL or laser cause side effects?

Immediately after treatment, it is normal for your skin to become red and sensitive for at least 48 hours.

Most people experience no other side effects, but although rare, small blisters may form. Sometimes the skin may become lighter or darker, but it usually recovers its normal colour very quickly.

Is the treatment safe?

IPL and laser treatments are considered safe. However, some minor side effects such as blisters or temporary colour changes in the treated area can occur.

As exposure to IPL and laser light can damage your eyes during the treatment, we will always provide protective eyewear to avoid any risk.

Am I suitable for treatment?

IPL and laser therapies are ideal for fair-skinned people with dark hair. If you have blond hair, electrolysis will be a better suited solution.

IPL is not recommended if your skin is dark or tanned. However, unlike other laser technologies, Nd:YAG Laser is completely safe for people with darker skin tones, and electrolysis is also a great alternative for people with dark complexions.

Initial consultation and test patch

During your initial consultation, one of our dermatologists will assess your medical history to confirm suitability. Your clinician will also do a test patch on your skin to ensure it reacts positively to the treatment.

This is also a great opportunity to ask any questions or share any concerns you may have.
Before proceeding, you will also be asked to sign a consent form.
