Wrinkles

Wrinkles

Wrinkles are an inevitable, but we have the best anti-ageing treatments to help reduce their appearance and make you look younger for longer.

Wrinkles are completely harmless. They are just the natural consequence of repetitive facial contractions that happen as we frown, squint or smile.

As we get older, the skin loses its flexibility and firmness due to a reduction in collagen and elastin.  This results in facial lines and folds around the eyes, forehead, nasolabial area and neck.

Some people love their wrinkles, but for some of us, they are an unwelcomed reminder that we are getting older.

Are your wrinkles holding you back? Book a consultation and we will help you get back to a more youthful looking skin.

Wrinkles FAQ's

What causes wrinkles?

Wrinkles are the result of repetitive contractions of the muscles involved in our facial expressions.

While we are young, these frequent movements have little impact on the appearance of our skin. However, cell regeneration slows down with age, reducing the production of collagen and elastin necessary to keep the skin firm and flexible.

As a result, small facial lines start appearing, normally around the eyes (crow’s feet), forehead, nasolabial area and neck.

Can tanning and sunbeds cause wrinkles?

Yes, environmental and lifestyle factors, such as sun exposure, smoking, pollution, or a poor diet can also accelerate the ageing process, contributing to the development of wrinkles.

In the case of unprotected sun exposure or excessive use of sunbeds, the skin is more likely to develop wrinkles and sunspots may appear.

What are the best anti-ageing treatments?

Wrinkles can be reduced using topical treatments and chemical peels. However, Fractional Laser Resurfacing and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Rejuvenation, target wrinkles more effectively and offer the best long-term results.

Although laser and IPL are great treatments, they are not recommended for people with dark or much tanned skin. If this is your case, microneedling is a safe skin rejuvenation treatment that offers excellent results.

What is the difference between Skin Rejuvenation and Skin Resurfacing?

Both treatments rejuvenate the skin using light energy. However, the type of light and the way it works on the skin vary.

Intense Pulsed Light (ILP) Photofacial Rejuvenation stimulates the body’s natural ability to produce collagen and elastin, substantially reducing the appearance of wrinkles and facial lines. IPL also destroys melanin-rich cells responsible for age spots, making it the perfect two for one rejuvenation treatment.

Fractional Laser Resurfacing also enhances the production of collagen, but by eliminating the outer layers of skin. This stimulates the skin’s natural renewal processes, which reduces the number of wrinkles. Resurfacing is recommended if wrinkles and facial lines are deeper.

The choice of treatment is decided based on your expectations and the type of wrinkles and blemishes your skin presents. Book a consultation to find out the best one for you.
