Rosacea & Red Veins

Rosacea & Red Veins

Rosacea is a very common skin condition that causes visible facial redness and uncontrollable flushing, leading to embarrassment and low self-esteem.

Rosacea results in the appearance of red veins on the face and can also trigger pustules and red spots on the skin around the cheeks and nose.

Rosacea can also change the way you see yourself, with some people feeling very anxious due to the excessive flushing and others seeing themselves as much older than they are.

Fortunately, its signs and symptoms can be eliminated with Intense Pulsed Light, electrolysis or micro-needling.

Rosacea & Red Veins FAQ's

What causes rosacea?

The causes behind rosacea are not fully known. Although it seems to run in families, a genetic link has not been confirmed. It is believed the immune system, certain bacteria and environmental factors may also play a part.

Alcohol, exercise, stress or exposure to extreme temperatures can worsen its symptoms. Experts recommend using sunscreen protection all year-round and avoid direct sun as much as possible.

Can anyone develop rosacea?

Rosacea is a common skin condition that can affect anyone, but it more commonly affects fair-skinned people and middle-aged women (40-60 years old). Men are less likely to develop it, although symptoms do tend to be more severe among older males.

Is rosacea dangerous?

No, but it can cause discomfort. The skin on your face can become more sensitive, and the affected areas may feel hot or sting slightly.

However, the external signs of rosacea (flushing, red veins, red spots and pustules) are very noticeable to others. This can have a severe impact on people’s self-confidence and emotional wellbeing.

Can rosacea be cured?

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition, but several treatments can help control and reduce its signs and symptoms.

Topical treatments and antibiotics may help, but dermatological treatments usually offer more definitive results.

Intense Pulsed Light (ILP) is the fastest and most definitive treatment for rosacea, as it drastically reduces flushing, red facial veins and red spots in only a few treatments.

Electrolysis and microneedling are also worth considering as they have proven successful in the treatment of rosacea and thread veins.

If you are unsure which treatment is best for you, book a consultation with one of our dermatologist for a full assessment of your case.
